Write it out,
in your own hand.

A writing page for pupils aged 7 to 14

Who is playing today?

A grown-up can read the manual at any time.

📖 Read the user manual

Age only sets the paper this pupil is offered first — wider lines for a younger hand, narrower for an older one. Every page size and every kind of ruling is open to everybody, and a grown-up can change it at any time.

Choose a subscription

A grown-up picks the plan. Paying asks for a grown-up’s email, for the receipt — and for nothing else.

Paid online? You can also paste the payment number from your receipt email here.

Bought your copy in person? Type the code you were given. It needs internet once, and then works offline.

Your payment is checked on our own server, and what you buy is signed so it cannot be copied. Nothing about your child leaves this device.

Nothing your child writes leaves this device. By using this app you agree to our terms and conditions. See also our privacy notice.

My work

Everything this pupil has written, newest first. It is kept on this device only — nothing is sent anywhere.

Type it up

Your handwriting stays exactly as you wrote it. Here you can also type the same piece out, choose a font, and print a tidy copy.

0 words

Writing record

How much writing has been done, and when.

Minutes writing that day

Length of each piece

Taller bars are longer pieces. Writing at length is the thing that grows the slowest, so this is the bar worth watching.

Pen or finger

Handwriting improves with a real pen or stylus in the hand. A finger is welcome, but it cannot teach a pen grip.

What the class finds hard

Missed by the most pupils — worth teaching to the whole group.

Add a pupil from another device

If a pupil practised on their own phone, ask a grown-up to send you their backup file from Settings, then bring it in here.

Settings

Only a starting point. Every page size and every kind of ruling stays open to the pupil on the New piece of work screen — this is simply the one already chosen when they get there.
Read this before switching it on. A phone or tablet can only tell a real pen from a finger when there is a real pen — an Apple Pencil, a Samsung S-Pen, a Windows tablet pen. The cheap plastic styluses sold in shops look exactly like a finger to the app. With this on, a device with no pen cannot be written on at all. It is left off until a pen has actually been used on this device, so nobody is ever locked out of something they paid for.

Pupil details

Replace this with your real support address before giving the app to families.

Data

All results live on this device only. Nothing is uploaded.

Clear the record wipes the writing record — the charts of when and how much was written — and keeps every piece of work, the pupil, and your subscription. Erase this pupil removes the child completely, their writing with them, and if the subscription was bought on this child it goes too.

A backup holds the writing itself, so it can be a large file. That is the point: it is the only copy there is.

Restore from a backup

Moving to a new phone, or bringing a pupil back after clearing your browser? Choose the backup file you saved earlier.

Backups are the only copy of a pupil's history. Save one at the end of each term and keep it somewhere safe, like your email.

Subscription

You can buy or change a plan at any time — there is no need to wait for a free trial to run out. Whatever you choose starts on the day you pay.

Put this on your phone

Added to the home screen it opens like any other app — its own icon, no address to type, and it still works with no internet.

On an iPhone or iPad

  1. Open this page in Safari.
  2. Tap Share — the square with an arrow pointing up.
  3. Scroll down, tap Add to Home Screen, then Add.

Do this before a child starts, if you can. On an iPhone the home-screen copy keeps its own results, separate from Safari’s, so work already saved here will not appear in it. If there is work already: press Save a backup above, add the icon, open it, and choose that file under Restore from a backup. After that, use only the icon.

On an Android phone

  1. Open this page in Chrome.
  2. Tap the ⋮ menu at the top right.
  3. Tap Install app, or Add to Home screen, then confirm.

Android shares the same results between Chrome and the icon, so nothing needs carrying across.
