The marks

Tap any pupil to change their mark, or to write a comment you did not have time for while marking. Nothing else is disturbed. A πŸ’¬ means a comment is already there.

Pupils in this class

Type the register once at the start of term. Tap a name to correct its spelling β€” their marks stay with them.

Surname first, then the other names β€” Boateng, Ama Serwaa. That is what lets the register sort itself into the order a school expects, and it is how the name will appear on the report.

Type one, press Add, type the next. If you already have the register written out somewhere, paste the whole lot in at once instead.

Order

Marks from the Wake apps

For this class. Two different things arrive here, and they are treated differently on purpose.

Practice in the learning apps comes in as one entry a week for each app, each pupil's mark being their average score that week. Those entries appear in the mark book and on the report, but they do not count towards the average until you give them a weight — practice on a phone is not an examination.

A paper you set in Wake Read.Drill.Quiz.Exam.Ap comes in as one entry, out of that paper's own total, on the day you set it — a drill as classwork, a quiz as a test, an examination paper as an exam. Those do count, at the weight that kind of work normally carries, because you set the paper and you marked it. You can change the weight like any other entry.

Papers and practice on this device

If you set papers in Wake Read.Drill.Quiz.Exam.Ap on this same device, or your pupils use the learning apps on it, the mark book can read the marks here. Nothing is sent anywhere.

Marks sent to you in a message

In a learning app on the pupil's own phone, a grown-up opens the report and taps Send my marks to my teacher. In Wake Read.Drill.Quiz.Exam.Ap, open a paper and tap Marks to my mark book — that one message carries the whole class. Copy the whole message you receive and paste it here. You can paste several at once.

A piece of work

Fill this in once. Then you just tap in the marks.

An exam usually counts more than a homework. This is what makes the term average fair rather than flat.

Your subscription

A mark book is bought by the teacher, for the academic year β€” not by how many children are in the class. The free trial runs a whole term, because a mark book only proves itself when the first reports come out.

Where should your receipt go?

Used for your receipt and for reaching you about your subscription β€” nothing else. No pupil’s name or mark is ever sent anywhere.

Given a code instead?

Paid online? You can also paste the payment number from your receipt email here.

If your school paid for you, or you paid Wake directly, type the code you were given. It needs internet once, and then works offline.

Your payment is checked on our own server, and what you buy is signed so that it cannot be copied from one phone to another. Your marks stay on this phone either way.

By subscribing you agree to our terms and conditions. See also our privacy notice.

Settings

On, because Ghanaian schools expect “7th of 32” on a report. Turn it off if you would rather a parent saw only their own child.

Grades

Which scale does your curriculum use?

One band per line, written as 80 = Grade A Β· Excellent. Change any line and it becomes your own scale.

Why the BECE 1–9 grades are not in this list. They are a national ranking β€” grade 1 is the top 4% of candidates in Ghana, not a mark of 90 β€” and one class is not the whole country. Used on a class it would call a child who scored 75% a β€œgrade 9, fail” for being bottom of a strong class. What it is reaching for is where a child stands among others, and this report shows that directly, as position in the class. If your schools use their own percentage bands for practice reports, tell me the numbers and I will add them as a scale.

Keep your mark book safe

A term of marks is real work, and this phone is the only place it exists. Save a backup file and email it to yourself β€” then a lost or wiped phone costs you nothing.

Restore from a backup

New phone, or marks lost? Choose the backup file you saved earlier. Anything already here is kept β€” restoring adds, it does not wipe.

Put this on your phone

Added to the home screen it opens like any other app β€” its own icon, no address to type, and it still works with no internet.

On an iPhone or iPad

  1. Open this page in Safari.
  2. Tap Share β€” the square with an arrow pointing up.
  3. Scroll down, tap Add to Home Screen, then Add.

Do this before you start marking, if you can. On an iPhone the home-screen copy keeps its own records, separate from Safari’s, so classes and marks already entered here will not appear in it. If you have marks already: press Save a backup above, add the icon, open it, and choose that file under Restore from a backup. A subscription does not travel in a backup file β€” a licence belongs to one phone β€” so the new copy will ask you for a plan. After that, use only the icon, or you will be keeping two separate mark books.

On an Android phone

  1. Open this page in Chrome.
  2. Tap the ⋮ menu at the top right.
  3. Tap Install app, or Add to Home screen, then confirm.

Android shares the same records between Chrome and the icon, so nothing needs carrying across.

Lock this mark book

A four-figure number, asked for when the app opens. It keeps a curious pupil out of other children’s marks if your phone is left on a desk.

It is a lock on a door, not a safe. Someone determined, with your unlocked phone, could still get past it. And if you forget it, the only way back in is your backup file β€” so save one first.

Erase everything

Wipes every class, every pupil and every mark from this phone, for good. Use it when you hand the phone on. There is no undo β€” save a backup first.
